Finals weekend, message from Colin, our chairman

This finals weekend only 3 of the intended matches have been held out of the 10 that should be played over the 2 days. During the season there are 13 club competitions which are eligible for awards/trophies at the annual presentation dinner, 3 of which are decided earlier in the season. The other 10 should wherever possible be played over the scheduled finals weekend, as this gives the whole club chance to celebrate the achievements of various members during the season and is usually a great social club day as well.

The unavailability of participants has made this years event a bit of a damp squib, for all members who look forward to this annual event and for the competitors who have played, and for the players who would have liked to play this weekend, but through no fault of there own have not been able to.

Going forward, we now need to reconsider our procedures regarding play by dates and the availability of those members entering competitions but subsequently being unavailable for the posted finals dates.

There are always going to be exceptional circumstances, but to avoid this happening again in the future the timetable of club competitions will be discussed by committee and if required amended prior to next season.

Events like Finals weekend are steeped in our tradition and help create the wonderful atmosphere seen at BTBC, but if we have rules agreed by members, we should observe them..
