This week's matches in various competitions were back on track after the disruption caused by last week's heatwave.
Tyler Smith and Alastair Franklin won their match in the County Gents Pairs by 18 shots to 7 against Ian Hillier and Mike Russell at Abbrook Park to reach the section semi-finals. In the County Unbadged Gents Triples, Kenny Breame, Chris Shorland and Roger Bailey won 15 shots to 14 after coming back from 9-1 down early in the match. They too have reached the semi-final stage of their competition, as have Heidi Call and Les Hignett in the County Mixed Pairs after winning 16 shots to 13 at Newton Abbot.
Bovey's Gents Over 55s teams were both in action with the X team at home to Buckfastleigh and winning on both rinks to earn 8 league points. The Y team were involved in two matches, both away. At Starcross they lost on both rinks, one of which was after being 9-1 ahead, then 9-15 behind and losing 17-18 on the last end and at Abbrook Park again they lost on both rinks by just one shot and three shots respectively. These results are quite typical of their recent run of bad luck which is due to change.
In the Ladies South Devon League, Bovey lost by three rinks to nil at Chudleigh after being ahead overall at the tea break. In the Ladies Triples Challenge at Totnes, they drew on one rink and lost by a single shot on the other to gain a solitary league point.
In a Mixed Triples friendly match at Newton Abbot, the hosts won by three rinks to one and by 16 shots overall. Finally, a Mixed Rinks home friendly against Okehampton reduced to 15 ends due to the oppressive heat resulted in a win for Bovey by three rinks to one and by 10 shots.
