Last week's men's Mid Devon League win ensured Bovey were mathematically safe from dropping into the third division which was fortunate as this week's match was against Shaldon who had won all their previous games this season. The result was mostly as might be expected with Bovey managing a noteable win on one rink to earn two league points to Shaldon's 12. A Walding, D Johnson, S Callard, R Bailey 22-19; J Hampton, A Tremlett, T Smith, A Franklin 14-21; D Anderson, K Lockett, L Hignett, T Ridgewell 9-30; D Wraighte, K Breame, C Shorland, P Joy 18-24.
Bovey were home to Kingsteignton in the men's Over 55s X division and took all eight league points from an excellent win. D Anderson, S Callard, K Lockett 21-10; L Fullbrook, J Richards 18-10. The Y division team were away at Shaldon and did well to win a rink but lost overall to gain two league points to Shaldon's six. D Cosway, P Cridge, R Bailey 18-13; A Cromwell, A Franklin, K Breame 7-31. The latest league tables show the X team in third place and the Y team in seventh in their respective divisions.
The ladies' South Devon League team had an excellent result in their home match against Bitton Park, taking all ten points from the fixture, played on a very hot afternoon. Y Stanford, S Breame, H Call 20-5; K Eldergill, D Simpson, K Callard 25-8; D Bailey, J Ridgewell, S Johnson 19-8.
In a home triples friendly against Abbrook Park, Bovey ladies won by two rinks to one and by 38 shots to 23.
Just a couple of interesting results from many in the ongoing club competitions. Tyler Smith beat Phil Joy in the men's handicap by 21 shots to 10. Phil did have to give eight shots start but it's still an encouraging result for a 'newby' against one of the club's top bowlers. In the next round Les Hignett started five shots behind against Tyler and won by the closest of magins, 21 shots to 20.
