Colin & Jane have received the following from Tina England at the cricket club.....

Car Parking on Friday Night/ Events
In order to accommodate Bowls Club users and help ensure access to parking near the rink, I included the following note in our newsletter last week asking our members to leave the car park nearest the bowls club free and instead use the furthest car park area or the overflow parking that we open on Fridays. We also regularly remind our members to walk, cycle or lift share where possible.

We also put these arrangements in place for the recent Devon County match on 26th April, with volunteers on the gate directing people accordingly to help keep the nearby spaces available for Bowls Club members.

I wonder if you could please ask your members to help with two things:

  1. To park between the posts rather than in line with them (we are planning additional signage to make this clearer).
  2. To consider lift sharing where possible, or walking to the club if they live nearby, as we have noticed that the nearby car park fills very quickly when most cars arrive with only one occupant.

I would also be grateful if you could pass on to your members that these parking arrangements, including the additional signage and volunteer marshals, are being organised by us specifically to try to support Bowls Club parking needs during busy events.

Unfortunately, a small number of our volunteers have recently experienced some rather abrupt reactions from a minority of your members while directing traffic, including occasions where drivers have not stopped when asked. I am sure this is unintentional and certainly not representative of the majority of your members, who are always very pleasant, but I felt it was worth mentioning as our marshals are only trying to help keep the parking arrangements running smoothly for everyone.

I appreciate that, even with these measures in place, there will not always be a completely convenient parking space available, but I wanted to reassure you that we are making every effort to minimise disruption for all users of the site.
Opening of the Cricket Practice Nets & Tennis Court
We have persuaded our local MP, Sir Mel Stride MP, to come along on Thursday 4th June at 5.15pm to officially open our new facilities - the odd time is because we are squeezing in to his busy itinerary! As he doesn’t have long we are keeping things simple - his assistant has said he will need to wrap things up and move on at 6pm, so it will be a short and sweet visit. We will give him a tour of facilities, say a few words, ask him to say a few words and then retire to the cricket club for a drink - until he has to leave. We have also invited members from the town council and local press.
I just thought I would let you know i) in case you wonder what is going on, but ii) also to check whether this clashes with any of your fixtures of events. Just let me know what is on the Bowls Club diary so we can accommodate all users on the day.
If you have any questions, please get in touch.
I look forward to seeing you both soon, now that our seasons have both started.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Tina
